Bolton 3.5 – 2.5 Eccles
Summer League
B Division

Wow! It’s not often you get five drawn games out of six.

Ian Lamb the League Captain of Super Club Bolton B Division said it was a very close match and it could have easily gone either way.

Both players on top board where equal on material when their game was drawn, board 5 had a perpetual check and Darren on bottom played exceptionally well to get a draw against an oppoinent who was much stronger rated than himself.

Even though Eccles second team lost against Bolton’s stronger 1st team Eccles played extremely well to have lost by only one point. Like with all clubs it much depends on player availability on the day especially during the summer and well played to Bolton!

Man of the Match: Darren Stanway.

It was agreed by both captains that Darren should be nominated as Man of the match due the massive point difference between himself and seasoned player Paul Doherty.

To draw against someone who is over 272 rating points stronger than yourself is quite an achievement.

Chris said that Darren is improving all the time and should now have the confidence to play to the end of the game rather than agreeing and accepting a draw.

I hope this match has proven to Darren that he is a much stronger player than he gives himself credit for.

Well played Darren and we look forward to seeing on Wednesday for your usual practice games before the next on match on Thursday at home to Eccles 4 v Altrincham 2. This will prove to be a difficult match to win but I’m sure everyone will enjoy their games.
