Eccles 2.5 – 1.5 Altrincham

E Division – SE Lancashire Summer Chess League.

These were the most evenly matched games I have ever known with only 105 rating point difference across all four board, average point difference was a mere 26 points per board.

All the players who took part in the match really enjoyed their games and the enjoyment that chess brings is so much more important than just winning! Winning is not everything – obviously there are some players who won’t agree with me, but that’s ok, I’m cool.

Man of the Match: Akinyele Soyoye

Akinyele (Akin to his friends) is a wonderful man who loves to play chess! Akin is a family man and like all family men can only play chess when he can. Eccles were lucky enough to have had Akin sat alongside Chag who is also a family man both with two young children, it was by sheer coincidence they were available to play on the same night and share a bit of “dad time” together. Nice one Chess Dads! We shall have to try and arrange this more often!

This was Akin’s second league match playing for Eccles over a long period of time and won both of them. I sure hope Akinyele can find more time to play chess because I believe his current ECF rating is not a true representation of his actual playing strength. Akin you need to play more Chess, ok Ok!!

On a lighter note: When Akin arrived early that evening he was shown into the playing area of which he had never seen and there he spotted a pub piano, Akin immediately asked if he could play and there he stayed playing the piano until it was time to play chess and I thought, how wonderful was that? Akin you come to my house and play the piano anytime:D

Akinyele Commented:

I was a pawn up on an early exchange and capitalised on positions to take it to the end game. My opponent had a light square bishop to my knight. However he was forced to exchange the bishop for a passed pawn which my Knight successfully blocked from promoting into a queen. My opponent resigned. Good Game!!
