Eccles FIDE/ECF Fundraising Classic Chess Event
Eccles Community Chess Club – Hosted their first one day Classic Chess Event 27/07/25

This was a FIDE/ ECF one day fundraising classic chess event. There were two classic games open to all players rated u2250 with a time control of 80+15.
It was an event without prize money.
This event was in aid to help raise funds to purchase a soundproof shutter for the Eccles beloved high street chess venue.
The event was held in the beautiful iconic building of Eccles Community Town Hall.
Approximately 60 players registered to play. Chief arbiter was Sacha Torregrosa alongside Arbiter Damian MCarthy and controller Ian Lamb.
There were eighteen players who took park in their first FIDE rated game in this tournament and many thanks to all for making it happen. The Tournament ran very smoothly and was a great success.
The winning scoresheet drawn for the £100 free prize draw was a game between James Buckley and Chaitanya Valdamani. James won the game and therefore won the £100 free prize draw. Nice!
I am looking at creating more tournament chess events to give players more opportunities in taking part in rated games. The ECF is the national body for England, while FIDE is international. FIDE is the worlds governing body for chess and it is nice to be able to combine the two in one event, especially in our local community. Maybe we could host a Grand Prix?
The most interesting game held at this event was between Eccles player David Stuttard rated at 1695 who was paired with 3C’s player Rob McLean rated at 2216 creating a rating difference of 521.
This game is well worth seeing played out and well played to David Stuttard. Awesome Game!!

Monday Night: Ladies and Learners from 6.40 pm until 8pm followed by intermediate and advanced chess tuition, presentations and group participation. plus Chess for Fun! All levels of play welcome!
Wednesday Night: Chess is for Everyone with Friendly and ECF Rapidplay games from 7pm until late. All welcome!
Free refreshments – Free local Parking – All donations gratefully received.
