Warrington League: C Division Trophy Winners 2023/24

This is the first year Eccles entered a team in the Warrington League!

Eccles only fielded one team in C Division also known as the “Development Division” as it’s for new starters and lower rated players.

After a slow start Eccles played well to pull back the points they had lost earlier on in the season, resulting in finally jumping from second to first place after their last match of the season. This made Eccles the winner of C Division in the Warrington league 2023/24.

Well played to all you chess people for taking part in the Warrington League and for travelling sometimes long distances to play a game of league chess!

I am sure all of us lower rated players learned something to help develop our chess skills, and Eccles looks forward to taking part in the Warrington league next season.

Even though Eccles won C Division and were offered promotion to B Division we respectfully declined as we plan to field a team in B Division in the Manchester League.

Eccles have at least 39 registered players rated under 1450 of which 27 of those are under 1300 so we need to field as many lower division and development division teams as possible and if anyone would like to BE A captain, please please please let me know.

Because of the above statistics, it has been agreed that Eccles can field a team in C Division and the Charnley Cup which is great news for players like me, ladies and all to chess.

So yeah, I would like to thank all players new and old for taking part in winning our first trophy playing as part of a team in the Warrington League. Well done us!!!

Another bit of good news!

At the AGM my name was put forward to be the new ECF representative, the majority vote was cast in my favour which means I can now help create more awareness for women playing chess in the English Chess Federation. This is a great result for promoting awareness for ladies in chess.

Personally I think this is the best news ever as I feel that women are under represented on local and national chess bodies. This helps to reduce the gender gap in these arears.

I really hope to make a difference in promoting ladies in chess and to ensure the ECF Code of Conduct is adhered to in helping to protect women, vulnerable people and juniors in chess organisations.

Many thanks for your support as always
