One for the Ladies:

Donna Chadwick (pictured)

Donna is the first lady ever to have captained a team in the Northern County Chess Union (NCCU) representing Greater Manchester.

It was a Yorkshire away match and both teams agreed to meet half way in Bradford and the match took place in a lovely hotel called the Latvian.

Donna chose her u1450 team with great precision. The team won the match 7 – 5 taking Manchester through to the national stages.

Before the games started a nice selection of sandwiches were served alongside tea and biscuits.

Donna Commented:
As an addition to that, the opposing team captain congratulated me on inspiring female players to join in and play and that I was inspired by you Barbara to get more ladies involved. There were 3 ladies playing in this match, as well as 11 juniors taking part as well.

Well done to chess Captain Donna Chadwick who is showing that there is a place for ladies in competitive chess and captaining chess teams and thank you for the mention.

Ladies will soon be running chess leagues and organising chess tournaments very soon, I’m sure of it.

Chess is moving forward and changing with the times which is great news for everyone including Ladies and Learners in Chess!

Again, well done Donna and good luck in the next round. If you would like more ladies to get involved I’m sure by working together we can achieve, just that. ❤️♟️
