A Division – Warrington League

Good games were had by all!

Man of the Match: Kieran Leonard. Kieran’s grandad David tought him how to play chess at an early age but grew out of playing chess and moved on like most kids do.

Kieran recently got back into the game because he thought, what can I do that is different from the norm (no pun intended) and decided to join Eccles Chess Club.

Kieran now loves playing the game, plus he’s got a car and has volunteered to be a driver, which is awesome!!

Like with most clubs, players with wheels are like gold dust because they can help those who don’t. This is always a nice give as it goes towards helping and supporting other players within the community.

Kieran has now played his eighth league match and will soon get a known (K) rating. I wonder what it will be 🤔

Kieran learnt a good lesson during this game which I would like to impart. The only word to explain this is by saying j’adoube meaning I adjust . Kieran had very slightly moved his king as it was awkwardly placed between squares, his opponent picked up on this and said, ‘you have to move the king as you’ve touched it’. Kieran said they were in a drawish position and at this point his opponent offered him a draw which he accepted.

This is a good warning to all you new players – if you touch a piece you have to move that piece, not unless you say j’adoube or adjust.

Thank you Kieran for sharing and I hope you can always say yes when a game is offered and up for grabs.
