MCF – A Division.
It has to be said, what a great result for Stockport. Eccles only scored four draws out of six games. No matter how hard team Eccles played they just couldn’t convert those draws into wins. Well played to Stockport, you are playing brilliantly this season and good luck!!
Man of the Match: Mike Surtees (good old Mike)
Most Manchester players know Mike and what a Stonewall this guy actually is.
I know that when I ask Mike about his game it will be an in-depth explanation and here it goes – Please let me know if it doesn’t make sense, remember, I’m only the messenger, so please don’t shoot me…
Opening: Mike playing black on board one started his game with his own unique version of the Caro Kann Defence using his Revolutionary Opening Theory (ROT) for short.
1.e4-c6 2.d4-d5 3.exd-cxd 4. B-d3-Nc6 5.c3-e6. 6.Bf4-Bd6 7.Bxd6-Qxd6. 8.Nf3-Nge7 9.0-0-a6 10.Re1-h6 = (I would have used an infinity symbol but didn’t have one)
Middle Game: Mikes opponent Alex Longson played Ne5. Exchanged knights. Mike’s threatening move was Qb6. Qxb2. Game progressed with no errors. Both sides playing best moves.
End Game: After about 15 moves neither sides could make any progress so they shook hands and agreed a draw..
Mike said it was a minor victory as black playing against someone who was a slightly higher rated player. The game was somewhat interesting on the ROT point of view with six pawn moves in his first 10 moves.
Mike stopped playing his ROT after about 12 moves and switched to conventional play. I think it’s great that Mike can do this and he plays it so well. Nice one Mike and hope you get a win next time out!
