Summary:
A great evening of chess all round — well-fought games, friendly faces, and plenty of competitive spirit. Eccles came out strong with a commanding 5–1 victory over Cheshire.
Man of the Match: James Scorer (East Cheshire)James produced a superb performance, defeating Andy Roberts, who recently obtained a known (K) rating. With a rating difference of 193, James’s win was both impressive and well-earned, gaining him valuable rating points.

“The game opened with a Queen’s Gambit Declined. It was fairly even through the opening and middlegame, with White holding a slight advantage. Black’s queen and knight were a little offside. White sacrificed a knight and built up a strong attack against Black’s weakened king, which ultimately won the game.”

Unusual Incident:
For the first time in recent memory, an illegal move slipped past both players unnoticed!
Out of courtesy, names are withheld — but it serves as a reminder of the importance of notation.
Without accurate notation, the players would never have realised the illegal move had occurred.
A brief note on the rules:
If a player makes an illegal move, the opponent is not obliged to claim it immediately. They can consider whether the move benefits them; if not, they may stop the clock and raise the illegality. However, in this case, it was an honest oversight by both players.
