Chess Book Donation

Hello Fellow Woodpushers

Last night at Social Chess a book called Polgar Chess training in 5333+1 positions was donated to Eccles Chess Club by Dave Boulden. It was passed onto him by Phil Boyd who played for Denton Chess Club for many years and has sadly passed away.

The Polgar Chess training in 5333+1 positions is of particular interest as it was written by Lazlo Polgar, the Father of the Polgar sisters, Zsuzsa, Sofia and Judith whom he raised to be Chess Prodigies.

This book is better known as the Chess Bible by Polgar. It has 1104 pages, weighs a whopping 3kg and measures 30 x 21 x 5.5.

The book has about 4,000+ mates with the rest being games and “endgame positions”

The “Chess Bible” is so heavy I couldn’t put it on the bookshelf in fear of collapse so it has to reside in the seating area of the chess venue for people to flick through when waiting for a game.

This particular book is not for sale nor lent but you are more than welcome to go through it when you come to visit.

Dave also donated a book called FIGHTING CHESS Games and Career by Gary Kasparov & Bob Wade. If anyone would like to borrow it or any other books in our chess Library please ask.
