Eccles played five league matches in six days without defaulting a board. Many thanks to Dave Toole for Captaining A and B Division teams, and to all who took part.

Blue Club 2.5 – 3.5 Eccles
B Division
Summer League
A nice little win for Eccles playing against one of the strongest clubs in Manchester. It was a tough match and the result could have easily gone the other way, but the best team won in the end and well played! Many thanks to Patrik Tzortakos for driving across from the other side of town picking up players from different destinations, getting them to the match on time and showing great Team Spirit. Patrik please can you let me have your petrol receipts as the club will not allow drivers to be out of pocket by supporting the club, which I think is only fair.
Woman of the Match: Leila Feiz for achieving a draw playing against seasoned player Armand Catz who is a much stronger player than herself. Well played Leila, now that’s what I call GIRL POWER!!

This was the first time Eccles fielded three lady players in one match. I know Eccles lost all four boards but I am confident that one day soon we will turn those losses into wins. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their games and learnt how to play better chess. Well played to all who took part and we very much look forward to a rematch. I would like to say a special thanks to the Bolton Juniors Captain Julian Clissold for nurturing and introducing these young people to their own personal chess journey.

D Division
Summer League
Lymm is a brand knew club who have never played in the Summer League. The result does not reflect their true playing strength. Lymm have fifteen new players who have all been given a local rating of 1500 which in my opinion is to high as they will be fielded against players all of a similar or higher rating, but I’m sure by the start of the next season they will all have a more realistic rating. Well done to Bryan Slater who created the club less than twelve months ago with zero players to where it is today and it won’t be long before the trophies start flying through the door. Well Done Bryan, your a force is to be reckoned with!!
Man of the Match: Daniel Crofts Eccles player Daniel Crofts finished his game in less than 15 minutes winning his ever first league match. Well played Daniel!!

E Division
Summer League
Man of the Match: Steve Deakin (Atherton) for being the only Atherton player to have scored a result. Nice one Steve, you earned a respectable draw playing against one of Eccles’ most fielded players in D Division. Better luck next time Steve and well played 👍
I would also like to credit top board player Akinyele Soyoye for winning his game against a very similar rated player. This is Akins third match playing for Eccles and he must be doing something right as he has not lost a game, but all that could change. Watch this space!!
