Altrincham 0.5 – 5.5 Eccles
MCF – B Division Cup Match
Fantastic result for Eccles as both B and C Division teams go through to the next round of the MCF Wahltuch Cup.
Man of the Match: Pete Mulleady (pictured enjoying a pint with Eccles Captain Dave Toole)

Peter first started playing chess at the age of twelve in the Trafford Local league. He had never played for Eccles and won his debut game playing against a very worthy opponent Reg Clucas.
This is was Peter said about his game.
We played the London System (beginning 1.d4 Nf6 2.Bf4 d5 3.e3 g6) The game was very close in the opening and because of this the the middle game was complicated. I gained a slight advantage as Reg was under time pressure and lost a piece due to a tactical pin. Pete said it was a decent game and he looks forward to playing Reg again.
This is what Reg said about his game:
I felt that I was under pressure for most of the game, but the diagram position is roughly equal. In this position Pete has just won the pawn on b7, and short of time I chose the wrong way to win it back – 22…Bxc3? 23.bxc3 Rxc3? 24.Ba5 and White is winning material. Instead, I should have played 22…Rb8 23.Rxb8 Rxb8 24.a5 Nd3 and Black will win back the pawn with the added bonus of preserving the dark squared Bishop, with a draw the most likely outcome.
Reg provided this picture of the critical position:

Thanks guys for providing the info and so pleased you enjoyed your game.
