Bolton 1 – 3 Eccles
Development Division
Summer League.
Team Eccles turned up at the Bolton Venue in good time ready and eager to play.
This was the Eccles team line-up
1 Paul Whitwell 1299
2 Nathan McDowall 1299
3 Jason Barbar (c) 1150
4 Jack Biddell 1100
Unfortunately Bolton was unable to field a full team on this occasion and was a player down which meant the bottom board won by default
To avoid a wasted journey on his debut match, captain Julian Clissold was able to find someone to play against Jack Biddell. Jack’s opponent David Agyemang had a rating of 1714 which was obviously too high to play in the u1300 Division. Even though there was a 614 rating difference between them Jack played a hard fought game and despite losing to David was very pleased with his performance. Credit should also be given to David for standing in at short notice.
Man of the Match: Nathan McDowall (Pictured)
This was Nathan’s second league match – which he won. Well played Nathan!
Nathan has been coming to club night for about six months and during this time he has learnt how to use a clock and notate with efficiency as you can see by looking at his scoresheet.
If Nathan continues to play – which I think he will – and with the help and support he receives from other club members, I’m confident that he will develop into a much stronger player. I can see Nathan soon being to strong enough to play in the development division next season. He will be moved up to a higher division now that he is learning how to play better chess. I have high hopes for Nathan and thank you for joining the club!!
I would like to thank Jason Barber on board 3 not just for winning his game but for standing in as acting captain for the first time. I would like to offer Jason a captaincy role in the club, and I hopes he accepts it.
Commiserations to our top board player Paul Whitwell in losing his first game for Eccles. Don’t worry Paul, there will be plenty more opportunities to win in the future!!
