Altrincham 2.5 – 3.5 Eccles
A Division
Summer League

This was a closely fought match, with Eccles narrowly achieving a win. The match could have easily resulted in a draw. Well played to both clubs but as I always say – the best team always wins on the night. The last match for Eccles playing in the South East Lancashire Summer League will be an A Division match at home v Chorlton on Thursday 10/09/24. Good Luck to both Clubs and again, the best team always wins.

Players of the Match. Ali Janouby and Leila Fiez

Ali and Leila live, love and work together as a team. Ali is currently Eccles’ strongest male player and Leila is the ladies. I like it when they play as a team with Ali on top board and Leila on bottom or higher. They are a wonderful couple who are always there to help advise and support the club whenever or wherever they can. Group hug guys – and catch up soon.

Captain David Toole who runs the A and B division teams sure knows his stuff. He studies and calculates the form of each of his players, he knows which colour best suits them at the time of the match, on which board it is best to field them, he knows who is playing well and who is losing confidence in their gameplay. He even gives counselling to those who need it and best of all he’s passionate about getting everyone learning from their mistakes and teaching how best to win. Way to go Dave!!

Captain DT nominated Ali as Man of the Match because he sacrificed his knight to win his game and Leila because, even though she was suffering a very painful migraine, she played to the end so as not to let the side down. Now that’s what I call the Eccles team spirit – using our mantra – “there is no I in team”
