Marple is a really nice venue that uses amazing chess equipment including wooden sets, scoresheet clip boards and green felt table cloths. It’s a nice ventilated room which it had to be due to the hot sunny weather.
The Marple team were out rated by 936 rating points across all 6 boards meaning it would have been very difficult for Marple to have won this match. Well played to Marple for putting up a strong fight and better luck next time!
Man of the Match: James Buckley.
Mr Jim as I like to call him went above and beyond picking players up and dropping them off and did not arrive home until after Midnight. Thanks Mr. Jim we couldn’t have fielded a team without you.
Jim has played a total 11 games of which he has won ten and drawn only once. Well played Mr. Jim and long may your winning streak continue!
This was the second time in two months that Jim had played Captain Neil Dainty.
Neil played exactly the same opening as before – The Kings Indian Attack and Jim replied in the same way but this time he found a combination that gained him two connected passed pawns on the queenside. It initially looked that they might be fragile, but they were well supported by his pieces and one of them marched through to gain promotion. Nicely done Mr. Jim!!

Darren pictured holding the Nigel Holland Trophy is unstoppable, he’s played 11 games since April and lost only once. Darren always finds time to play when asked, he uses public transport wherever he can and has never let the side down.
Darren said this about his game. I faced an unusual flank opening called the Polish. He started to pressure my queenside, then I switched play to his kingside.
I did this via a knights sac on e3 which lead to me getting a queen check and a looming mate. I then got handshake from my opponent. I really enjoyed the game and bring on the next!
