MCF – C Division.
This is the first of many match report of 2025. In spite of the appalling weather conditions both teams turned up in good time, good games were had by all and well played team Eccles for starting the year with a win.
Man of the Match: Dave Boulden. (pictured playing in a simul v Nigel Davies)

This is what Dave said about his game: A fairly insipid opening, transposing from a petroff to a four knights. Got interesting around move18. The threat was 19 Be7. Not sure who is really better?
Thanks Dave, I have asked one of our chess gurus Andy Roberts to give your game the once over and this is his independent analysis of the game.

Game Analysis by: Andy Roberts
A Petrov’s Defense transposing into a Four Knights.
Fairly even up until 19…Be7 where black loses a pawn because of the tactic of trading rooks and then removing the queen as a defender of the f6 Knight.
Black fails to defend another pawn after move 21…Kg7.
- Rda1, white is moving forces over to the queenside to attack the lone pawn.
Black is able to defend on the queenside so white switches to attacking on the kingside.
- Kg2 and white is at minimum winning a knight and will take the game shortly. Thanks Andy for your analysis.
