Congratulations to all who take part in playing for the Chess Community of Eccles. We should be really proud of our collective efforts, hard work and team spirit!

To have won so much silver wear since Eccles were down to just three men in a shed back in 2019, spending two years in lockdown to what we have collectively achieved to date is surely a most remarkable achievement.

Not forgetting having won the MCF Silver Queen 2022/23 earning Eccles promotion from B to A Division. Winning the U1451 Division and the E Division Alfred Milner Cup 2021/22 to winning to our first ever trophy called the Hartley Cup for winning D Division back in 2019/20

In 2023/24 Eccles played in The Manchester, Stockport, Warrington and the South East Lancashire Summer Chess Leagues fielding a total of 10 teams winning various league divisions and cup trophies. Eccles are also about to start introducing postal chess which was very popular before people started playing online.

They now have their very own high street venue where they can practice and play for fun.

Many thanks to everyone who helped to support the club and other team players.

I hope that what Eccles have achieved proves that females not only have a place in playing chess, but also in organising “Chess in the Community”
