Ladies Learning Chess: Week 2
Another great night of Learning Chess! Some ladies were unable to join us this week due to prior commitments and we look forward to you joining us again next week.
Ladies Learning Chess has received great reviews causing a bit of a buzz in the Community of Eccles. Jack’s presentations are not only confusingly head scratching but they create fun at the same time. It’s lovely when everything we are being taught starts to come together and make sense. Its a bit of a struggle sometimes but we all get there in the end.👍
I was so pleased that no-one in the playing area pretended they understood everything that Jack was teaching and spoke up to ask questions. The banter and laughter is what makes Ladies Learning Chess fun, especially when nobody knows what anybody else is talking about lol. Seriously we are a group of ladies getting together to have fun learning and that is what chess is all about, well it is for me anyway.
Learning how the pieces move is the easy bit, it’s learning what to do with them that’s complicated, but we ladies will strive to conquer. Below is one of Jack’s simple puzzles which was probably on the wall for longer than anticipated (Black to move). Jack has so much patience bless him and 10/10 for perseverance.
There are now 27 ladies who have joined the Ladies Only WhatsApp Chess Chat Group. If only half of us continue to learn how to play chess, we just might be able to put a team together during the Summer League which is due to start in late May early June, but there is still much to do.
Hopefully, if all goes according to plan, we will be getting more new ladies joining us once the word is out telling everyone and how much fun learning how to play chess actually is and it’s not the serious boring old man’s game that it is made out to be.
Ladies turning up on Mondays who are all at different playing strengths which is cool because we can all help each other learn and catch up. So do not worry if you miss the odd lesson here and there because you can catch up later when Jack presents the syllabus next time round.
Fact for today – There are more chess moves than there are grains of sand.
Homework for next week: If you have time play games online at home – Analyse your games – Spam puzzles online and on a physical board – Pop in on Wednesday evening 7pm till late for friendly or ECF rated games. Most of all Enjoy!
