Final Player Selection for the French European Friendly FIDE Chess Tournament
We are delighted to announce that the players representing Salford in this year’s French European Friendly FIDE Chess Tournament will be Nicolas Rojas (primary club Altrincham) and Caleb Harris-Reeves of Eccles. (Pictured)
Both players were selected because they were the first to express a strong interest in travelling to France to proudly represent Salford in this long-standing Town Twinning Chess Event—an all-expenses-paid weekend filled with competitive chess, sightseeing, and the exceptional hospitality provided by Salford City Council.
This annual tournament is truly a privilege to attend, showcasing the spirit of Chess in the Community across Eccles and Salford. I can personally attest to the experience, having taken part in the same event back in 2017 as pictured here https://tinyurl.com/3uc3mcmz
Last year, Gedimidas Sarakauskas and Martin Mitchell represented Salford with distinction, achieving first and second place. And let’s not forget Marcial “Totty” Flores, who won the event twice—in 2010 and 2011. Totty hopes to return in future years and looks forward to reconnecting with the dedicated organisers who continue to champion community chess, much like we do here in Eccles.
We hope that Nick and Caleb enjoy every moment—not only the chess, but the sightseeing, warm hospitality, and the friendships and memories that continue to grow year after year.
